COMMONWEALTH HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEETING 27-29 NOVEMBER 2015 


THEME: THE COMMONWEALTH – ADDING GLOBAL VALUE

The RCS is actively involved in all fora whether as speakers or observers, engaging on its particular policy themes:

  • Support of a civil society role in countering violent extremism
  • LGBT rights to be based on the Commonwealth approach of respectful dialogue and drawing attention to practical, good policy practice.
  • Meaningful incorporation of young people into political discussion as a means of building social cohesion and harnessing young people’s skills and innovation
  • Empowerment of young women through education as a critical means of combating child, early and forced marriage.

The RCS will also be running a Civil Society Media Hub based in the Inter-continental Hotel. Contact RCS for more information.

Listed below are the RCS' activities during the CHOGM week.

Side event: Sunday 22 November: Justice and the SDGs: Promoting an Inclusive Approach to Participatory Policy Making. Organised by CHRI, RCS contributing a panel member (open to all)

Side Event: Sunday 22 November: AGM of the Commonwealth Equality Network will be attended by an RCS representative

Commonwealth Youth Forum 21-25 November: RCS is supporting two members of the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network (CYGEN) to attend the forum. 

Commonwealth Women’s Forum 22-24 November: Helen Jones, RCS Director of Youth and Education, will host a half day session on Gender and Youth Leadership. RCS is supporting four members of the Commonwealth Youth Gender and Equality Network (CYGEN) to attend.

Commonwealth People’s Forum 23-26 November: RCS Policy Officer will attend and take part in the discussions on LGBTI with the Commonwealth Equality Network

Side event: Wednesday 25 November: Reception for Commonwealth Scholars at the University of Malta

Commonwealth Business Forum 24-26 November: Will be attended by RCS President, Lord Howell, plus two members of RCS senior management team

26 November, 4pm: RCS partners with CEIP at The Climate Challenge Conference a panel event and reception (ticketed)

27 November: Out of the Blue:The Prince of Wales's Environmental Photography Award Ceremony at the Maritime Museum (invitation only)

27 November: RCS Reception (invitation only)
