On the 14th and 15th of October, the Royal Commonwealth Society, Plan UK, and the Commonwealth Secretariat co-hosted a Commonwealth Roundtable on Early and Forced Marriage. The two-day roundtable, held at Marlborough House, brought together senior officials from across the Commonwealth to explore the legal and cultural barriers inhibiting progress and to exchange best practice.
Around the world over 14 million girls marry under the age of 18 every year, over half of whom live in the Commonwealth. This roundtable is part of the RCS's and Plan UK's ongoing campaign to end early and forced marriage in the Commonwealth. A key outcomes document will be published shortly, but in the meantime, click here to read what the Commonwealth can do to help put a stop to this harmful practice.
